Description This listing features a RARE 4.5″ ammonite fossil of Asteroceras stellare, found in the Frodingham Ironstone Formation at Conesby Quarry, near Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England. This beautifully preserved specimen is from the Lower Lias Group, specifically the Denotatus Subzone of the Obtusum Zone, Lower Sinemurian Stage, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Asteroceras stellare is a classic species from the early Jurassic and belongs to: Order: Ammonitida Superfamily: Psilocerataceae Family: Arietitidae This ammonite is a key component of the early Sinemurian marine fauna and is used biostratigraphically to correlate Lower Jurassic strata across Europe. The Frodingham Ironstone Formation was deposited in a shallow marine, iron-rich sedimentary environment, dating to approximately 199–197 million years ago.
